V for Vicarious

Blog about something interesting eh? OK..

The new Tool single "Vicarious" (Def: experienced or gained through someone else) is out. The album's leaked (or has it..?) And the cover says TOOL not FOOL.

Cuz I need to watch things die (from a distance)
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
You all need it too, don't lie.

Vicarious is apparently about how people watch TV to escape and how we're all addicted to it and live life through it. This guy on songmeanings says it better:

It's about how we all sit in front of our tv's 24 hours a day gathering useless information instead of getting up and actually doing something meaningful. If we don't do anything with our lives we might as well be dead yet we think were better off than those people we watch on tv who die trying.

Speaking of TV here's my watching/reading material for this week (thanks to Civic Video's 1 dollar Wednesdays):

..notice the trend? ..this along with this week's The West Wing, Commander in Chief (or West Wing-lite as I like to coin it), and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Jon Stewart hosted the recent Academy Awards) + the fact that I'm currently reading JFK - An Unfinished Life led my boss to say to me 'sometimes I think you live in the wrong country'.

Primary Colors is a roman-a-clef (true story behind fiction) about Clinton's 1992 campaign. Manchurian Candidate is a remake of a 60s movie starring Sinatra, which was based on a book. It's a sci-fi-ish political thriller. The other is a doco about the Bush admin (duh). It's a bit more sane than Fahrenheit 9/11.

The Sentinel - a new movie starring Kiefer Sutherland and Michael Douglas sounds like 24 with a twist. Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth looks like a must-watch. He narrates a documentary about the politics and science behind global warning. Some think it could be a prelude to a 2008 Presidential run. (Looks like he needs to win again.)

Obviously United 93 (The 4th hi-jacked plane that crashed in Pennsylvania made it to the Capitol) is going to be interesting...and of course The Da Vinci Code. See also Google's Da Vinci Code Quest

American Dreamz has the US President (a thinly disguised parody of Bush 43) participating in an American Idol event hosted by Hugh Grant. The Inside Man is worth watching. It's a bank robbery movie with a twist.. like Ocean's 11. Great acting all around.

Staying up doing this MPO debate. The textbook, whilst somewhat interesting sometimes, is also full of shit. For some reason he inserts photos of bananas, clouds and trains in a chapter about globalization.

Happy 21st Birthday to Cano, Kirk, and Ruby.
